An Alabama Army National Guardsman was killed and another injured in a military Humvee crash Thursday morning, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
John Wesley Wardrop, 38, of Satsuma was killed when the 2009 military Humvee he was driving left the road and overturned on Interstate 65 at the 63.7 mile-marker, troopers said. The passenger, 25-year-old Justin Cecil McCollough, of Grand Bay, was taken to D.W. McMillian Hospital, troopers said.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of this Soldier, and are praying for and thinking of the family,” Alabama Army National Guard officials said in a statement. “The Alabama National Guard will conduct an investigation into the cause of the accident.”
McCollough was treated and released from the hospital, according to a statement from the Alabama Army National Guard.
Wardrop was pronounced dead on the scene, troopers said.
The crash happened at 9:43 a.m. The crash site is about six miles north of Atmore.
Both men were members of the 1156th Military Police, officials said.
Further details about the crash were not immediately available. The crash is still under investigation.
