A review of the Kahr ST9 ‘Tig’ model

A year ago, Kahr Arms introduced its “S” series of pistols to its single stack handgun lineup.

Both the Kahr S9 and ST9 offer additional features without bumping up the prices of the pistols. The Kahr “S” series handguns have fore-end pictinny rail, three-dot sights as opposed to the common bar-dot sights on many Kahr models, front slide serrations, nicer slide engraving; they moved the serial tag from the dust cover to the grip, and they ship with two magazines. They also fall under the Kahr “value series,” which means they can be easily purchased in the mid $300s.

The handgun featured with this review is the Kahr ST9 “Tig Series.” A portion of the proceeds from the “Tig” (short for John Tiegen, a member of Benghazi Annex Security Team) firearms goes to Beyond the Battlefield Foundation, which assists wounded soldiers integrate back into American society.

The Tig Series of firearms includes a custom engraved Thompson rifle, Desert Eagle and this kryptek frame finish Kahr ST9. Each of these guns includes the John Tiegen logo, the Beyond the Battlefield logo and John Tiegen’s signature, followed by “Semper Fi.”

The unique kryptek slide finish surely looks different but it offers a “rubber like” texture that assists with controlling the gun when firing. The slide, trigger and controls are cerakoted black and the engraved logos make this pistol a “one of a kind” model.

The Kahr ST9 is one of Kahr’s larger handguns, with a 4-inch barrel, and hosts eight rounds in the single stack magazine for a full three-finger grip. Loyal Kahr handgun fans should rest assured that the 6.5-pound double action trigger, .90-inch slide width and very slim overall profile has not been altered. Consistent with Kahr handguns, the ST9 is very lightweight. It weighs only 20.5 ounces unloaded and an even 24 ounces with a loaded eight round magazine.

At the range, the Kahr ST9 performed just as I expected – excellent. It was accurate and reliable, as I shot more than 200 9mm rounds without a single issue. With the range review video below, I demonstrated its accuracy along with comparing the ST9’s size with two other Kahr handguns.
