The Crossroads Pawn and Audio in Little River, S.C., has called out Dick’s Sporting Goods and displayed a sign that says: “We sell AR-15’s because we’re not Dick’s.”

The sign was placed at the business in May, Fox News reported.

Dick’s Sporting Goods, a nationwide retailer of sporting goods and firearms, announced in February it will no longer sell assault-looking rifles – including the AR-15 – or firearms to anyone under 21, and it will also no longer sell “high-capacity” magazines.

In a series of tweets, the company cited the Parkland school shooting on Feb. 14 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida, and while it “supports and respects the Second Amendment,” Dick’s felt it had to “help solve the problem.”

Barbara Davey, the pawn store’s manager, said: “We have a few people, you know, who weren’t in favor of the sign, but our positive feedback really outweighed that negative feedback.”

Even with the criticism, the pawn shop has received more business since the sign has gone up, she added.

Some disapproval of the sign was due to the pawn shop’s proximity to the local high school, North Myrtle Beach High School.

“In no way do we advocate or support the tragedies that are going on in this country,” Davey said.

The sign was placed to support the Second Amendment, she pointed out.

The shop released a statement on their Facebook page regarding the sign.

This is their statement:

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody for their support! When you have tremendous outpouring of positive reinforcement comes those who don’t have the same views. We respect everyone’s personal opinion.

We would also like to clear up any confusion. An AR15 is NOT a combat weapon or a tactical assault rifle. In no way are the horrific massacres happening to our children and in our schools acceptable. This violence must stop. But it’s not the guns killing innocent Americans.

We will continue to take strides to reinforce and advocate for responsible gun ownership. We will also continue to be proud supporters and members of the NRA – National Rifle Association of America. Once again, from our Family; we thank you all.
