Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is en route back to the United States from North Korea, and he is bringing home the three Americans who had been detained in the country, President Trump announced on Wednesday.

“I am pleased to inform you that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is in the air and on his way back from North Korea with the 3 wonderful gentlemen that everyone is looking so forward to meeting. They seem to be in good health. Also, good meeting with Kim Jong Un. Date & Place set,” Trump tweeted.

Pompeo and the three men are expected to arrive at Andrews Air Force Base at 2 a.m. Thursday morning, and Trump will be there to greet them, he said.

“Very exciting,” the President exclaimed.

Trump on Tuesday said Pompeo was traveling to North Korea to prepare for the upcoming meeting between North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un and the President.

A location and date have been set for the meeting, Trump said, but the details have not been released to the public yet.

“We think relationships are building with North Korea,” Trump had said, adding: “We’ll see how it all works out. Maybe it will [work out], maybe it won’t.”

“It can be a great thing for North Korea, South Korea and Japan,” Trump added.
