When the “March for Our Lives” student-led demonstration for gun control took place on March 24, Gun Owners of America was also in Washington, D.C., to counter-protest the demonstration.
With many people there urging for universal background checks, raising the age of possession of guns to 21, closing gun show loopholes and other calls for tighter gun control, GOA had its own group of counter-protesters, and the organization also interviewed people at the rally who are pro-gun control.
“We also have a team of reporters out asking people how far they want to go with gun control. You’ll be amazed how far they want to take it,” said Erich Pratt, GOA Executive Director.
Following the the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Florida, where 17 students and staff were killed, student organizers from “Never Again MSD” planned the event with the nonprofit group Everytown for Gun Safety.
At the event, counter-protesters held up signs in favor of the Second Amendment and that pointed out the hypocrisy of those who favor gun control.
Some of the signs brought to the rally showed George Clooney holding guns in some of the movies that he has acted in – even though he donated $500,000 to the march and is an advocate of gun control.
Other signs depicted pop singer Demi Lovato being guarded by armed security. Lovato is a vocal advocate of gun control, and she participated in the pro-gun control event.
Another poster held up by a counter-protester read: “98% Of Mass Shootings Occur In Gun Free Zones.”
