Two Alabama firefighters came to the aid of a 30-year military veteran who suffered chest pains last week while mowing his lawn.
The Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service Department wrote in a Facebook post that Rescue Unit 25 responded to the veteran’s home, and the veteran was then transported to the hospital for treatment.
Firefighter/Paramedic Tommy Carter and Firefighter Timothy Kennedy later went back to the veteran’s home to finish mowing his lawn.
The act of kindness went viral online and has received nearly 4,000 likes and more than 1,000 shares as of Monday morning.
“I could tell that he was a kind, gentle, genuine person, and sometimes you meet people like that during this job and they touch your heart,” Carter told WBRC. “That makes the decision even easier when you meet someone that has that kind of personality.”
Carter and Kennedy were commended for their “continued dedication to providing the citizens of Birmingham,” the fire and rescue service wrote on Facebook.
