Adding to the recent string of violent crimes in one of Mexico’s most popular tourist towns, authorities in Cancun said they found five bodies stuffed in a car Wednesday morning.

The bodies have not been identified, according to The Associated Press. But Noticaribe, a news organization based in Quintana Roo, reports that all five victims were men and showed signs of torture.

The well-known resort destination has experienced a rash of drug-related crimes and homicides this year. According to Noticaribe, 57 people have been killed in the area just this month.

Fourteen of those homicides, which local authorities said they believe to be drug-related, happened in a 36-hour time frame near main tourist attractions.

Last week, gunmen on Jet Skis opened fire on a roving vendor in front of a beach resort. Authorities said the man, who ran into a nearby restaurant for safety, was not injured. Police also said that three people were shot and killed last Thursday in front of a bar outside of the main resort area of the town.

The Associated Press reports that earlier this week, Mexican prosecutors said three Cancun police officers were arrested in relation to the kidnapping of four people from Colombia.
