Not one, but two different commercial pilots flying on two separate aircrafts say they witnessed something strange in the Arizona skies last month.
Somewhere between the New Mexico border and the Sonoran Desert National Monument, in mid-afternoon on Feb. 24, an American Airlines pilot saw an object with an immense reflection hovering at around 40,000 feet, according to KTAR news.
“I don’t know what it was. It wasn’t an airplane but it was … the path was going in the opposite direction,” the pilot told Albuquerque Air Route Traffic Control Center.
Air traffic control radioed a separate Learjet pilot on a similar flight path to keep an eye out for anything that might pass over him.
Within minutes, the pilot responded to air traffic control.
“Don’t know what it was, but it was at least two, three thousand feet above us. It passed right over the top of us,” the pilot confirmed.
“Can you tell if it was in motion or just hovering,” traffic control asked.
Air traffic control asked if the object might have been a Google weather balloon.
“Doubtful,” the pilot answered.
Another voice interjected and said: “UFO.”
Newly released audio footage captured the conversations between air traffic control and the pilots in eerie detail.
“We don’t have any comment beyond what you hear. Other than the brief conversation between two aircraft, the controller was unable to verify that any other aircraft was in the area. We have a close working relationship with a number of other agencies and safely handle military aircraft and civilian aircraft of all types in that area every day, including high-altitude weather balloons,” KOB4, the NBC station in Albuquerque, said in a statement.
