Police say a 17-year-old girl has been killed in what is being described as an “accidental shooting” at an Alabama high school on Wednesday.

Initial reports stated that two students had been shot at Huffman High School, one with life-threatening injuries. There were also reports that a school employee was injured.

The shooting reportedly took place during dismissal and was described by Birmingham Police Sgt. Bryan Shelton as an “accidental shooting.”
The school was placed on a brief lockdown and students were later released.
No other details were available at this time.
