On Saturday, Deputy Nick Carmack and his partner, K9 Shep, were pursuing a stolen Ford Expedition in Hudson, Florida.

Body camera video footage, released by the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office, shows how the scene unfolded.

Suspects David Burton and Jacob Montgomery allegedly stole a Ford Explorer. Montgomery was the driver, according to Sheriff Chris Nocco.

The vehicle crashed into a pole on a road in Hudson. The two suspects fled on foot.

Deputy Carmack chased the passenger and his canine partner ran after the driver.

K9 Shep latched onto Montgomery’s arm but the suspect was so determined to flee that he started dragging K9 Shep along with him, according to deputies.

Brunton was apprehended by the deputy and handcuffed, but was forced to join in the chase while Carmack went to assist K9 Shep with his pursuit of Jacob Montgomery.

When Carmack happened upon the pair at the end of a dirt road, K9 Shep was clenched to the suspect’s arm, according to the sheriff.

When backup arrived, both suspects were taken into custody and face charges of resisting an officer without violence and from the stolen vehicle.

“Nick is an unbelievable deputy, like all of our deputies. It shows the passion for the deputy, for the K9,” Sheriff Nocco told FOX 13.

“Shep is Nick’s partner. They go to work together every day. They live in the same house together. Those two are very tight,” Sheriff Nocco said.

Shep is one of five K9’s donated to the Sheriff’s Office by a person who wishes to remain anonymous, said Nocco.
