World War II veteran Angelo Monaco died Feb. 20 at 95 years old, according to his obituary.
Monaco, an Army veteran who served with the 66th Infantry Division and landed at Omaha Beach in Normandy, was wounded three times during World War II, including once at Omaha Beach.
During the war, he participated in battles in northern France and the Rhineland, where he was twice wounded.
Monaco received three Purple Hearts, two Bronze Stars and the French Medal Legion of Honor for his service in the war.
Monaco was a butcher for the Acme Supermarket chain for 25 years and worked at Supermarkets General in Carteret, New Jersey, for 18 years before retiring as head of receiving in 1984.
