Elon Musk’s The Boring Company recently took preorders for a $500 flamethrower, and Musk said Thursday that they have sold out.

This means that 20,000 people preordered a device that shoots flames – and The Boring Company made $10 million.

While the flamethrower does actually shoot out flames, the flames reach no more than 10 feet due to safety standards implemented by the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
The flamethrower will also ship with a free Boring Company fire extinguisher, Musk said.

Musk announced as a joke that the company would start selling flamethrowers if The Boring Company was able to sell more than 50,000 baseball caps. They did, and now the flamethrower is for sale.
According to the website, the flamethrowers will be shipped in the spring and “may not be used on Boring Company decorative lacquered hay bales or Boring Company dockside munitions warehouses.”
“Don’t do this,” Musk wrote in an Instagram post where he is seen charging at a person videotaping him as he tries out the flamethrower. “Also, I want to be clear that a flamethrower is a super terrible idea. Definitely don’t buy one. Unless you like fun.”
“When the zombie apocalypse happens, you’ll be glad you bought a flamethrower. Works against hordes of the undead or your money back,” Musk wrote on Twitter.
