Special Counsel Robert Mueller on Tuesday charged the fifth person in the ongoing investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 Presidential election.
Mueller’s team on Tuesday charged attorney Alex Van Der Zwaan with making false statements about his communications with Rick Gates, a former campaign aide for President Donald Trump.
Van Der Zwaan was expected in court Tuesday afternoon to plead guilty to the charges.
Mueller has also charged former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort; Gates; former Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos; and former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

And, last week, Mueller’s team and the Department of Justice also indicted 13 Russian nationals and three Russian groups.
The Justice Department alleged that the 13 Russian nationals and three groups broke criminal laws and intended to interfere in “U.S. elections and political processes,” the Department said.
The charges include conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to commit wire fraud and bank fraud, and aggravated identity theft.
