The U.S. Embassy in Podgorica, Montenegro has released a statement about an “active security situation” after an assailant attempted to throw a grenade over the Embassy wall.
The grenade exploded before it landed, killing the assailant according to State. Dept. Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, Steve Goldstein.
There were no injuries except the assailant and there was no damage to the embassy.
The motive is not known at this time.
The Embassy put out a security alert on their website and asked Americans to avoid the area around the U.S. Embassy, avoid large gatherings and demonstrations, and follow the instructions of local authorities and to employ sound security practices.

Event: The U.S. Embassy in Podgorica advises U.S. citizens there is an active security situation at the U.S. Embassy in Podgorica. Avoid the Embassy until further notice.

Avoid the area around the U.S. Embassy.
Monitor local media for updates.
Avoid large gatherings and demonstrations, and follow the instructions of local authorities.
Employ sound security practices.
Authorities blocked Revolution Boulevard where the country’s intelligence agency and the U.S. embassy are located.
