An 84-year-old northern California woman, Betty Frances Sanders, was arrested Friday night after she fired her gun in toward three neighborhood children who were being “too noisy.”
The children, ages 8 to 10, were reportedly riding on motorcycles at their home in Anderson.
Sanders and her husband walked to the fence line that separated the two homes and complained to the children’s mother, Angela Rollins, about the children being too loud.
An argument erupted and the 84-year-old woman pulled out her handgun and shot one round at the family from about a 20-foot range, deputies said.
Police were called to Dot Lane shortly before 9 p.m. Friday after receiving a 911 call about shots being fired.
While no one was injured, the Sanders was arrested and charged with assault with a firearm and child endangerment, according to Sgt. Jose Gonzalez of the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office.
She was taken to the Shasta County Jail where her bond was set at $50,000. Deputies recovered the gun.
