A heroic firefighter caught a child thrown to him by a frantic father attempting to escape an apartment blaze in DeKalb, Georgia.

Helmet-cam footage of the incident shows a family of 12 being rescued by firefighters at Avondale Forest Apartments on Jan. 3, CBS reported.

In the footage, the father, Lance Ragland, can be seen coming down the ladder and dropping a baby from the third floor balcony into the arms of Captain Scott Stroup. Immediately after making the catch, Stroup runs with the child and takes it to safety.

Captain Jackie Peckrul also caught one of the children thrown at her by the family.

“That was the only thing running through my mind… ‘Lord, let me catch this baby,'” she told Fox5 Atlanta. “My hands came off the ladder and I got em’.”

Captain Eric Jackson told CBS46 that firefighters instinctively instructed the parents to throw down the babies.

“We’re a brotherhood, we’re a sisterhood, and so we depend on each other, and a lot of times that dependency comes at an instant so we have to be ready, we have to be able and willing enough to accept what’s coming at us,” Jackson told CBS.
