The new ‘crossover’ Glock 19X pistol will be released Jan. 22

When Glock announces a new pistol, the firearm world explodes. But what if they didn’t officially announce the new model, and it was inadvertently leaked by a YouTube video that wasn’t meant to be public? The firearm world explodes even more, as enthusiasts around the globe scatter for more detailed information. Those developments recently occurred just before the New Year, which had Glock fans turning away from the crystal ball drop and running to their computers to learn more about the new Glock 19X.

The Glock 19X is what Glock calls its first “crossover” pistol. They took the compact Glock 19 upper slide assembly and the larger Glock 17 lower frame to create the G19X.

Once the cat was out of the bag, Glock VP Josh Dorsey made an official statement. Dorsey said: “The pistol was developed for the military using Glock’s combat proven experience with consideration to efficiency, dependability and durability. Through rigorous testing, the G19X stands out above the competition and has the ability to function in all situations with ultimate reliability and accuracy. Our goal was to meet the demanding needs of the military while maintaining our standard of perfection. With proven results, the G19X delivers maximum efficiency and trustworthiness.”

The Glock 19X will sport the first factory PVD coated, coyote colored slide with a desert tan colored polymer frame. Other upgrades include the Glock’s Marksman barrel with enhanced polygonal rifling, an improved barrel crown, ambidextrous slide stop levers, finger grooves removed, Glock night sights, and three magazines, which include one standard 17 round and two 17-round magazines that have a +2 base-plate for a total of 19 rounds.

When I featured the Glock 19X on my YouTube channel, the overwhelming response was less than enthusiastic. Many people said they would have liked to see Glock create the opposite crossover pistol by using the larger Glock 17 barrel and slide and the shorter Glock 19 frame for easier concealed carry purposes. Several people also mentioned the Glock 19X did not add any new innovation. “It’s just the same ol’ Glock with a slightly different format” was another popular comment.

I did my best to create my version of the Glock 19X in the video, and also state my thoughts about the new model. Watch the video and let us know your thoughts and if the Glock 19X is a pistol you are interested in.
