A person parked about a block from the White House was arrested early Tuesday morning after officers discovered a loaded gun inside their vehicle, the Secret Service said.
Authorities were alerted to a “suspicious vehicle” parked “in the vicinity of the White House complex” around 2:30 a.m., according to a statement.
Secret Service Uniformed Division officers and Explosive Ordnance Disposal personnel with the D.C. police responded to the scene, where they discovered the occupant of the vehicle was in possession of a loaded firearm.
The driver was charged with carrying a pistol without a license, possession of an unregistered firearm as well as possession of unregistered ammunition and was taken to the Metropolitan Police Department for processing.
The vehicle — parked in the area of 15th Street and New York Avenue NW — was declared safe and towed shortly before 5 a.m., WJLA reported.
Portions of H Street between 15th and 17th streets were temporarily closed to traffic.
