Pentagon announces US soldier with anti-ISIS coalition dies in Iraq

The Defense Department on Tuesday announced that a soldier has died in Iraq while supporting Operation Inherent Resolve.

Operation Inherent Resolve is the combined joint task force coalition against ISIS, including the campaigns in both Iraq and Syria.

Spc. Javion Shavonte Sullivan, 24, of Fort Mill, South Carolina, died Jan. 8 in Al Anbar Province, Iraq, from a non-combat related incident.

Sullivan was assigned to the 16th Signal Company, 11th Theater Tactical Signal Brigade, Fort Hood, Texas.

The Pentagon says the incident is under investigation.

Sullivan’s death is the first of the coalition for 2018.

According to Stars and Stripes, Sullivan leaves behind a wife and 3-year-old daughter.
