The New York Police Department is investigating a photo of an alleged ISIS supporter who took a “selfie” photo outside the Metropolitan Museum of Art, according to the New York Daily News.
The photo, which has been circulating around social media the past few days, shows a hooded individual wearing a scarf with an Islamic State logo on it.
“The NYPD is aware of the photographs. As with all terror-related threats, the NYPD is looking into the incident. At this time there are no credible threats related to New York City,” an NYPD spokesman said.
The photos caption reads: “We are in your own Backyard,” said Eric Feinberg, the co-founder of a cyber intelligence firm. Feinberg told The New York Daily News it is unclear if the photo is authentic or if it is just trying to raise fear.
“Maybe it’s Photoshopped, maybe it’s not. It should be taken seriously,” he said.
Last year, a picture of an alleged ISIS supporter holding a phone with an ISIS flag on it with the One World Trade Center building in the background circulated on social media.
