Fire breaks out on roof of Trump Tower in New York

A small fire broke out on the roof of Trump Tower in New York on Monday morning, officials said.

Smoke was seen billowing off the top of the Manhattan skyscraper, carrying for several blocks.

Firefighters were called to the Fifth Ave. skyscraper, located at East 56thSt., at about 7:20 Monday morning.

The blaze appeared to break out in the building’s heating and cooling system, the FDNY said.

They quickly knocked the fire back, but firefighters were making sure it didn’t spread.

Two people suffered injuries, including one man who was taken away on a stretcher after battling the rooftop fire.

Eric Trump, the president’s son and an executive vice president at the Trump Organization, confirmed the rooftop cooling tower ignited.

“The New York Fire Department was here within minutes and did an incredible job. The men and women of the #FDNY are true heroes and deserve our most sincere thanks and praise!” he tweeted.

While President Trump and the first family now live in the White House, the commander-in-chief maintains a palatial apartment in the 58-story tower. The president was in Washington at the time of the fire.
