Elon Musk’s The Boring Company has sold more than $3.5 million worth of flamethrowers as of Monday morning, as the company has been collecting pre-orders for flamethrowers at $500 each.
While the flamethrower does actually shoot out flames, the flames reach no more than 10 feet due to safety standards implemented by the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Musk is attempting to sell a total of 20,000 flamethrowers and as of Monday morning, more than 7,000 have been pre-ordered, according to Musk.

In addition to the flamethrower, a Boring Company fire extinguisher can be added on to the pre-order for $30 more.
Musk announced as a joke that the company would start selling flamethrowers if The Boring Company was able to sell more than 50,000 baseball caps. They did, and now the flamethrower is for sale.
According to the website, the flamethrowers will be shipped in the spring and “may not be used on Boring Company decorative lacquered hay bales or Boring Company dockside munitions warehouses.”
“Don’t do this,” Musk wrote in an Instagram post where he is seen charging at a person videotaping him as he tries out the flamethrower. “Also, I want to be clear that a flamethrower is a super terrible idea. Definitely don’t buy one. Unless you like fun.”
“When the zombie apocalypse happens, you’ll be glad you bought a flamethrower. Works against hordes of the undead or your money back,” Musk wrote on Twitter.
