This is a breaking story. This article will be updated as new details emerge.

Around 3:45pm PST San Francisco fire and police departments responded to a traffic incident where seven people were injured by a box truck plowing into a vehicle and pedestrians.

The driver of the truck told police that he lost control of the truck.

San Francisco police Officer Grace Gatpandan told the Mercury News, a bay area newspaper, that there are no indications that the incident was a terrorist attack.

The white box truck rammed into a Mazda sedan with a family of five inside. Two elderly pedestrians were seriously injured and were taken to a trauma center.

The family suffered minor injuries and are being treated on the scene.

The Fire Department’s tweet read: RED ALERT GEARY/21ST Ave vehicle into pedestrians TOTAL OF 7 PTS 2 Serious 5 MINOR, ages unknown at this time 4 Medic Units on scene w/ Fire apparatus AVOID AREA 15:44 HRS

Officials are asking the public to avoid the area.

This incident is getting attention because of previous box truck incidents where terrorists purposefully ran into and over people and because there was a San Francisco terror plot broken up just days before Christmas.
