Marine vet wearing dress blues chases down Texas Walmart shoplifter

December 13, 2017

A Marine wearing his dress blues while volunteering with Toys for Tots outside a Texas Walmart chased down a suspected shoplifter over the weekend.

Marine Corps veteran Nathan Hanson was collecting Toys for Tots donations, while some volunteers were inside collecting toys and others were collecting cash donations.

Hanson saw volunteers chasing after the suspected shoplifter and decided to take off after him on foot, as well.

Hanson ran across traffic to head off the suspected shoplifter, 25-year-old William Horn, who stole $91 worth of electronics, according to police.

“I fell on my face when I got over there. And then I got up and I yelled at him, ‘You’re not getting away, I’m going to catch you!'” Hanson told WTHR.

Hanson didn’t know there were police nearby until he noticed a patrol car turn around and head for Horn.

“[The suspect] realized he couldn’t get away, and at that point he slowed down and stopped and said, ‘I give up, I’m sorry,'” Hanson told NBC News. “He got down, and I just waited there until the Plano Police Department came over.”
