The United States and Israel inaugurated the first American military base in Israel Monday, signaling Israel’s increased dedication to eliminating any threats from the country’s enemies.
“It’s a message that says Israel is better prepared. It’s a message that says Israel is improving the response to threats,” said Brig. Gen. Zvika Haimovich, the commander of Israel’s aerial defense.
Dozens of soldiers will operate at the new base, located inside the Israeli Air Force’s Mashabim Air Base.
The new air base will provide the country with more aerial defenses against any attacks coming from enemies such as Iran and from rocket attacks similar to those made against Israel in 2014 during the Gaza war.
Haimovich said the base sends a “message to the region and our surroundings that our partnership with our friend the United States is important.”
Haimovich lauded the opening of the base, saying it is a great addition to their defense system.
The long-range missile defense system Arrow 3 and medium-range David’s Sling missile defense system, as well as the short-range Iron Dome are currently operation in Israel.
