CIA Director Mike Pompeo on Monday told Fox News that senior al Qaeda leaders should “count their days,” because the CIA is on the hunt for them every day.
“My team, even as we sit here, is working to find [the senior terrorist leaders] and bring them to justice,” Pompeo told Fox. “If I were them, I’d count my days.”
Fox host Bret Baier pointed out the “splinter groups” of terrorists have multiplied around the world since the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001; he asked Pompeo his thoughts.
“I never want to underestimate al Qaeda itself. There are still senior leaders around,” the CIA director said. “[There are still] some of the old guys from the bad old days.”
Terrorist leaders are now in “lots of other places,” Pompeo pointed out – including Hamza bin Laden, the son of former al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden – all with a “common theme of a mission to execute Jihad against the west the United States.”
