A part of U.S. Marine recruit training that is not well-known in the Marines is swim qualifications.
For those who are not strong swimmers, swim qualifications will not be very easy to pass.
Recruits have to get through a full distance swim while in full uniform and with boots on. Recruits are already required to carry gear while swimming on their backs and treading water.
This is very different than the Army boot camp, which does not require any type of swim training.
As can be imagined, this water training is great experience to have, as it will give recruits the knowledge of what to do if they ever need to survive in the water.
