Dramatic surveillance footage captured the moment a 58-year-old Starbucks customer put an end to an armed robbery in Fresno, California, on July 20.
Cregg Jerri, 58, was at the Starbucks around 5:30 p.m. when a man wearing a “Transformers” mask walked into the store demanding money while threatening the clerk with a fake gun and a knife.
Shortly afterward, Jerri came up from behind the would-be robber, identified as Ryan Michael Florez, and hit him in the head with a chair, KGPE-TV reported.
As both men wrestle to get control of the knife, Florez and Jerri are stabbed; however, Florez managed to flee the scene.
Police later arrested Florez, and both men were taken to the hospital to be treated for their injuries.
“There’s probably not very many people in America who would do what Cregg Jerri did last night,” Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer told reporters. “It was incredibly heroic and the way most people would think that they would respond, but may not have the courage to respond.”
