A U.S. Army commercial was featured in 2015 with the tagline, “Be ready for anything, and have the strength to face the times where you may not be. Join the greatest team you will ever be a part of. Join the U.S. Army, and make a real difference.”
The commercial focused on a U.S. Army HALO team jumping from a transport aircraft.
HALO parachuting – also known as high altitude, low opening parachuting – is a method of delivering military personnel, equipment or supplies from a transport aircraft at a high altitude while the parachute opens at a low altitude.
In typical HALO exercises, the parachutist jumps out of the aircraft at a high altitude of up to 35,000 feet and opens the parachute at an altitude as low as 600 meters.
The technique is used so that the aircraft can fly above surface-to-air missile engagements while also minimizing the parachutists’ exposure to flak.
