Petty Officer Chris Daugherty returned home from six months at sea to find his wife, Natasha Daugherty, eight months pregnant with their fourth child.
Natasha Daugherty managed to hide her pregnancy from her husband for six months while he was aboard the USS Carl Vinson.
When Chris Daugherty got off the USS Carl Vinson, he hugged his three young children. Natasha Daugherty stood behind her children holding a sign reading: “Welcome Home Baby Daddy.”
As Chris Daugherty walked over to his wife, she dropped the sign revealing that she was pregnant.
“Is that real?” Chris Daugherty asked, shocked.
Natasha Daugherty said not letting her husband know that she was pregnant was extremely difficult.
“I wanted to share the excitement and joy with him about getting a fourth baby. He definitely wasn’t expecting it,” Natasha Daugherty told ABC News. “Being pregnant is such a fun experience and not being able to share it with him it was really hard. I was working the whole time and taking care of the kids, so I had to push through everything.”
Natasha Daugherty used some tricks to hide her growing stomach from her husband while he was at sea.
“I would always use the kids to cover my belly,” she told ABC News. “My best friend always does Snapchats and she would put emojis in front of it just in case to throw him off.”
“I can’t believe she was able to keep the secret for as long as she did because we tell each other everything, so I know it was really hard for her,” Chris Daugherty told ABC News. “I’m sure every day she wanted to just tell me, but I’m really happy she waited because it was an awesome homecoming surprise, and we got to find out the gender together the day after I got home.”
