(VIDEO) US Army Sergeant returns home early to surprise family at Legoland

July 07, 2017

The Cruz family got the ultimate Fourth of July surprise at Legoland Florida on Tuesday when U.S. Army Master Sgt. Tom Cruz showed up to the theme park without their knowledge.

The Cruz family visited the theme park and enjoyed VIP treatment thinking that that they were a part of a contest prize that a family friend won.

During the “Battle for Brickbeard’s Bounty” pirate ski show, Sgt. Tom Cruz ran over to his family, including his wife, Heather Cruz; his daughter daughter, Jaidyn; and his son, Holden.

Cruz told ABC News that he emailed Legoland on May 9 asking them if they could help him surprise his family at the theme park during their upcoming visit, because his family loves Lego bricks.

“He reached out in early May with the idea, and we pounced on it,” Legoland Senior Public Relations Manager David Brady told ABC News. “We knew it had potential to be really moving.”

Heather Cruz said she was surprised that her husband planned out the homecoming months in advance.

“Tom is not the kind of guy that likes fanfare, so the fact that he did that and planned for months to surprise us is a really big deal,” she told ABC News.

Sgt. Tom Cruz spent the previous six months on deployment to the Middle East.
