China’s official state-run channel for the distribution of news regarding the Chinese government and the Communist Party, has been seen advertising on billboards in Times Square.
American Military News has received exclusive photos of China’s state-run news agency, Xinhua News Agency advertising on massive billboards in the heart of Times Square.
The Xinhua News Agency is China’s state-run news agency and the official press agency of the People’s Republic of China. It is the most influential news and media outlet in China as almost every newspaper uses and relies on it for content.
Its own President is a member of the Central Committee of China’s Communist Party.
As well as being a news agency, Xinhua is a publisher that owns more than 20 newspapers and a dozen magazines. As of today, the agency delivers news across the globe in eight separate languages.
In 1989, Xinhua News Agency had a difficult time finding the “right line” to cover the Tiananmen Square protests. Many Xinhua reporters were angry and upset that editors weren’t suppressing the stories enough regarding the Tiananmen Square crackdown.
During the protests, little work was done at Xinhua. Afterward, the government took more control of the agency by replacing top editors with people loyal to China.
