The Boeing B-52 Stratofortress is a long-range, subsonic, jet-powered strategic bomber built to carry nuclear weapons for Cold War-era deterrence missions, even though it has dropped only conventional munitions in combat.

A veteran of several wars, the B-52 has been part of three strategic commands over time, starting with the Strategic Air Command (SAC) until 1992, then the Air Combat Command (ACC) until 2010, to the Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC).

Superior performance at high subsonic speeds and relatively low operating costs have kept the B-52 in service since 1955, despite the advent of later, more advanced aircraft.

In this video, a U.S. Air Force B-52H Stratofortress aircraft is seen arriving at the Great Britain Royal Air Force Fairford Base, in England.

Given the strategic partnerships forged around the world through the years, the U.S. constantly deploys aircraft strategically at different allies’ bases around the world.
