A female homeowner shot an alleged burglar early Monday morning in California after warning him not to enter the home.
John Velasquez, 42, was hit in the chest once during the encounter and was taken to a nearby hospital to undergo surgery, authorities said, according to FOX 11.
According to police, Velasquez parked his truck in front of the homeowner’s driveway to block off driveway access. Velasquez walked to the home and started banging on the windows, according to police.
According to authorities, the homeowner, who lives at home alone, called 911 and warned Velasquez that she had dogs on the property and was armed.
Velasquez reportedly broke in through the back door, but the homeowner quickly fired a shot and hit Velasquez in the chest, according to authorities.
The homeowner had no connection to the home intruder, she told Sheriff’s deputies, Fox 11 reported.
