Fleet Anti-Terrorism Security Teams, otherwise known as FAST, are highly trained platoons of Marines who are used to reinforce security at U.S. embassies around the world in the case that there is a danger to American personnel or assets abroad. Of course, training for a job like that is not easy and requires many months of specialized training and scenarios to ensure each Marine is ready for the task if called upon to support operations in their area of operations or AO.
There are three separate FAST companies, each based out of Virginia, which is where they train for the most part as well. Each company has a different AO that encompasses all embassies in their portion of the world. For example, 3rd FAST company encompasses much of the middle east. To this end, Marines train specifically for areas that they know they will be working in.
When not training for a specific area, however, the training they receive between companies is actually quite similar, if not more advanced than most regular Infantry companies. Most FAST marines will attend a plethora of schools to ensure that the platoon is well rounded on deployment.
