On Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin responded to questions from a CBS reporter who was able to get a hold of him just before he went out onto an ice rink to play in an amateur hockey match. In the strange rink-side back-and-forth, Putin told CBS correspondent Eliza Palmer that FBI director James Comey’s firing will have “no effect” on U.S.-Russia relations.
Donned in full hockey gear, Putin took of a glove to shake Palmer’s hand before responding to her question about Comey.
“Your question looks very funny to me,” Putin said, as translated by his spokesman Dmitry Peskov who was standing by his side. “Don’t be angry with me. We have nothing to do with that.”
Putin added that he believed President Trump is “acting in accordance with his law and the Constitution.”
He then invited Palmer to play hockey.
“You see I am going to play hockey with the hockey players?” he said to Palmer. “And I invite you to do the same.”
Palmer noted that by the end of the game, Putin went on to score seven goals.
