Petty Officer 1st Class Gregory Kyle Seerden, a Navy SEAL stationed with SEAL Team 1 in San Diego, CA, was arrested in early April on charges of video recording himself molesting a sleeping child. He is set to be arraigned on May 10th and will be transferred to Virginia reportedly to stand trial. The Magistrate overseeing the case, Judge Douglas Miller, said that an attorney would be appointed to Seerden, but that he would have to pay $300 per month to retain them.
The charges were actually brought against Seerdan while investigators searched his phones during an investigation into a non-related case. In January, a woman claimed that Seerden raped her at a hotel at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story. During the investigation, agents received permission from his commanding officer to search through his phone, whereupon they found dozens of images of young, prepubescent girls and boys alike engaged in a variety of sex acts, with some even including bondage and bestiality.
NCIS agents found that four of the videos and a photograph were made between Jan. 1 and 2 using Seerdan’s phone, according to court documents. They depicted a man in a light blue shirt masturbating next to a sleeping child of around 5-7 years of age while touching her sexually. While the man’s face was not captured in the video, other photos taken the same evening show Seerdan wearing the same light blue shirt and reading to children.
