On Wednesday night, 48-year-old James Jones visited the Zona Caliente Sports Bar in Arlington, Texas. Jones began arguing with the manager, 37-year-old Cesar Perez. Jones pulled out a gun and killed Perez. According to WFAA, fast thinking by another patron, a concealed carry permit holder, stopped the situation that could have escalated even farther. The patron, who was having dinner with his wife, responded by pulling his own gun and killing Jones.
Arlington police are calling the concealed carry holder a hero. They say he may have prevented a mass murder since police found two loaded guns and two knives on Jones. Police said they believe he had the capacity to do much greater harm. Witnesses say that when Jones entered the bar he began yelling randomly and incoherently. No one knew who he was yelling at.
After Jones shot and killed Perez he began firing shots at the front door while people were trying to escape. More than a dozen customers and a handful of employees were in the sports bar at the time of the shooting. The concealed carry “hero” was carrying a handgun under the Texas concealed handgun license program and will face no charges for the actions he took to be sure no other innocent people were harmed.
