Anthony Weiner, the disgraced former New York Congressman married to Hillary Clinton’s right hand woman Huma Abedin, appeared in court on Friday to plead guilty to having inappropriate sexual conversations with a 15-year-old girl. While pleading to the judge, Weiner, who used to refer to himself as “Carlos Danger” while sexting, reportedly wept as he issued an apology for his lewd actions. Multiple news agencies reported Friday that Abedin has filed for divorce.
“I have a sickness, but I do not have an excuse,” Weiner said, as quoted by the NY Post.
“I apologize to the teenage girl, whom I mistreated so badly. I am committed to making amends to all those I have harmed,” he continued.
Weiner was released on $150,000 bail and is expected to be back in court on September 8 for sentencing. If convicted, Weiner could get 21 to 27 months in jail.
Weiner was a Congressman from 1999 to 2011. Standing before the court, Weiner explained his compulsiveness that led to making such poor decisions.
“Beginning with my service in Congress and continuing into the first half of last year, I have compulsively sought attention from women who contacted me on social media, and I engaged with many of them in both sexual and non-sexual conversation,” Weiner said. “These destructive impulses brought great devastation to family and friends, and destroyed my life’s dream of public service. And yet I remained in denial even as the world around me fell apart.”
He went on to explain that in January of 2016, he was contacted by a stranger who said that she was a high school student. Understanding she was 15-years-old, Weiner engaged in conversations which ended up becoming lewd by March of the same year.
“I engaged in obscene communications with this teenager, including sharing explicit images and encouraging her to engage in sexually explicit conduct, just as I had done and continued to do with adult women,” Weiner said. “I knew this was as morally wrong as it was unlawful.”
The news of Weiner sexting a minor first broke in September. The young lady, who has not been identified by name due to her age, shared messages she exchanged with Weiner with The Daily Mail.
“I would bust that tight p***y” and “Thought of you this am. Hard.” were among some of the messages sent from Weiner to the 15 year old. According to the girl, Weiner would engage her in rape fantasies where he would imagine committing horrific acts on her after her Dad left the house.
The pictures of the message system on which the texts were shared show Weiner’s name displayed as “T Dog,” a tamer alias than his former “Carlos Danger” used in previous inappropriate sexting relationships.
The girl joked about the name “Carlos Danger” and asked Weiner if she would like if she called him that.
“I’d like that,” he replied. When she asked if there was anything he’d like to call her he said: “Mine.”
