(VIDEO) Armed Convenience Store Employees Disarm Robber & Hold Him Until Police Arrive

April 27, 2017

Around 10:45 pm on Saturday, suspect 26-year-old Frederick Thornton strolled into Cleveland, Ohio’s Convenient Food Mart wearing a surgical mask, pointed a gun at the 51-year-old clerk, and demanded money. When he wasn’t satisfied with how fast the clerk was answering his demands, he slammed his gun against the register and ordered the employee to move faster.

The loud commotion by the suspect was noticed by an employee working in the back of the store. The 24-year-old employee grabbed his gun and went out to see what was going on. He crept up behind the armed suspect and held his gun against the suspect’s back.

Thorton responded at the pair began to wrestle. A quick thinking employee came out from behind the counter and removed Thorton’s gun from him, firing warning shots into the air. Thornton then put his hands in the air at the sound of gunfire and asked the employees “not to shoot.”

With Thorton at gunpoint, another armed employee went outside to see if there were any other accomplices. Thorton was arrested and charged with “aggravated robbery.” Haytham Mustafa, the store owner says he thinks the employees handled the situation very well.

“Thank God no one was hurt,” he said. “They really handled it well. They didn’t go overboard and didn’t hurt anyone. That’s what we wanted to do — hold him and let the law deal with him.”
