President Donald Trump spoke to the media on Thursday, saying the complete authorization he has given the military to perform their jobs in recent weeks is the reason foreign diplomacy has been so successful lately, according to reports.
When asked about his decision to use the GAU-43/B, Massive Ordnance Air Blast bomb, otherwise known as ‘MOAB’ to attack a series of cave systems said to be home to Islamic State fighters near the border with Pakistan, he said he authorized the military to take control.
“What I do is I authorize my military,” President Trump said. “We have the greatest military in the world, and they’ve done the job, as usual. We have given them total authorization, and that’s what they’re doing. Frankly, that’s why they’ve been so successful lately. If you look at what’s happened over the last eight weeks and compare that really to what has happened over the last eight years, you’ll see there is a tremendous difference.”
White House press secretary Sean Spicer spoke to the press to expound on the President’s decision.
“The United States took all precautions necessary to prevent civilian casualties and collateral damage as a result of the operation.” Spicer said, “The United States takes the fight against ISIS very seriously and in order to defeat the group, we must deny them operational space, which we did.”
