The Islamic State is forcing its members to cut off their own ears for fleeing the Battle of Mosul, according to a report.
The terrorist organization removed one ear from 33 ISIS fighters who were caught fleeing the battle of Mosul, a source told Alsumaria News.
They were imprisoned before the punishment was carried out at a local hospital, the source continued. They men were told that if they tried to flee a second time, the other ear would be cut off.
In deserter situations, ISIS typically executes their own members, but because of their dwindling numbers, they are choosing to carry out less severe punishments. ISIS is fighting to keep control of Mosul, their stronghold in Iraq.
The battle for Mosul has been taking place since last October with Iraqi and coalition forces currently attempting to take control of the western portion of the city.
