The NRA has vowed to challenge California gun control laws in a series of lawsuits now that Neil Gorsuch is seated on the Supreme Court. Once this plan was unveiled, California Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom addressed the NRA in an April 25 tweet. His tweet suggested that lives are actually being saved by gun control as he made an effort to assure the NRA that gun control has already won the day.
“Hey @NRA-the people of CA have already spoken. Loudly. We reject your $ driven agenda. We’re focused on saving lives,” Newsom tweeted.
Many of Newsom’s fellow gun controllers have yet to come to the point of claiming California gun control has won the day. In fact, Gabby Giffords believes the April 10 murder-suicide at San Bernardino’s North Park Elementary proves California gun control is insufficient. And despite universal background checks, an “assault weapons” ban, a “high capacity” magazine ban, firearm registration requirements, firearm confiscation laws, and a 10-day waiting period on gun purchases, California Democrats are pushing an additional law limiting law-abiding Californians to a purchase limit of one gun per month. The NRA has launched its “series” of suits as an attempt to strip away gun controls already enacted and take the momentum from gun controls currently being pushed.
The NRA responded to Newsom.
“Hey @GavinNewsom – The Constitution is clear. Americans – EVEN Californians – have #2A Right to Keep and Bear Arms. #sorrynotsorry,” they tweeted.
