On Wednesday, Secretary Rex Tillerson spoke in the treaty room at the State Department and said that the United States would conduct a comprehensive review of its policies towards Iran. Tillerson warned that letting the Islamic Republic of Iran go “unchecked” could allow them to become an even bigger threat to the world, similar to that of North Korea.
“Iran is the world’s leader state sponsor of terrorism,” the Secretary of State said, “and is responsible for intensifying multiple conflicts and undermining U.S. interests in countries such as Syria, Yemen, Iraq, and Lebanon, and continuing to support attacks against Israel.”
“The Trump administration is currently conducting across the entire government a review of our Iran policy… an unchecked Iran as the potential to travel the same path as North Korea and take the world along with it,” Tillerson continued. “The United States is keen to avoid a second piece of evidence that strategic patience is a failed approach.”
