The U.S. Army Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter is one of the best known military aircraft by the American public. Portrayed in a movie about a mission gone bad over 20-years ago, it made its way into the popular vocabulary of the average person without even any knowledge of military or military aircraft. A Utility Tactical Transport Aircraft System (UTTAS), the Black Hawk helicopter is capable of performing an impressive array of missions, making it a valuable player in the U.S. Army’s arsenal.
Black Hawks have served in combat during conflicts in Grenada, Panama, Iraq, Somalia, the Balkans, Afghanistan, and other areas in the Middle East. In addition to its utility and tactical transport capabilities, electronic warfare and special operations variants of the Black Hawk have been fielded over the years.
This video shows just how great this helicopter is. It shows a Black Hawk landing on a highway while assisting with a medical emergency in Chena Hot Springs, Alaska, in July 2015. A truly awesome moment.
Blackhawks are also used as a dedicated medical evacuation aircraft, such as this one seen in the video below:
