Yogi Berra of the New York Yankees is one of the greatest players to ever play the game of baseball. We all know about his illustrious career and quirky sayings but there is one thing not as well known…

Before Berra played baseball, he served in the military and stormed the Normandy beaches during D-Day in WWII.

During World War II, Berra served in the U.S. Navy as a gunner’s mate on the attack transport USS Bayfield during the D-Day invasion of France. He also was sent to Utah beach.

During the 65th year anniversary, Berra shared his memories. Take a listen to what he has to say as we remember this legend!
