Back in 2001 as part of the world support in response to the 9/11 World Trade Center attack on America the United Nations Security Council passed a resolution that established the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF). The mission of this force was to train the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) and assist Afghanistan in rebuilding key government institutions. It was also engaged in the ensuing 2001–present war with the Taliban insurgency.
As part of this NATO-led effort, the Italian government sent some troops into the war ravaged nation. In this video, Italian paratroopers of the 183rd Paratroopers Regiment of the Folgore “Lightning” Brigade find themselves in the kill zone of a Taliban ambush while patrolling in Iveco Light Multirole Vehicles (LMV) in Bala Morghab, Afghanistan. This is just a small sample of what American troops found, and some of them still find, in Afghanistan everyday.
