Marine Drill Instructors have the tough task of turning raw civilians into United States Marines. It’s a job that, as any Marine can tell you, they do not take lightly.
If you were to stop any U.S. Marine and ask them if they got some special treatment from time to time by a Drill Instructor, most, if not all, could relay a funny story or two. Oftentimes, as a precursor to boot camp, Drill Instructors (D.I’s, as they are affectionately known) will visit recruiting stations and give Poolee’s (the designation for those awaiting boot camp) a little taste of what is to come.
In the video below, we see one such Drill Instructor single out a young man, and close in on him in a fit of rage. The poor kid probably doesn’t know what he is in for just yet, because the first time one of these guys yells at you, it’s easy for the situation to go from bad to worse!
Repeating commands and expecting an instant obedience to orders is one of the many things Drill Instructors learn to teach raw recruits to become Marines. While some things may seem like overkill, each day of a young recruit’s life during boot camp is meticulously planned out, and to get all the training they need to be successful, time is of the essence.
