Tim Kennedy, a UFC fighter and Former Army Sniper, pulled a gun on a U.S. Anti-Doping Agency employee in 2016, mistaking him for a ISIS agent. Kennedy has had a rocky past with the UFC. He’s an outspoken advocate for better fighter pay and treatment leading to several verbal altercations with high-ranking UFC officials in the past. His career as a U.S. Green Beret has earned him an even rockier relationship with ISIS.
FBI agents warned Kennedy that credible threats were made against him and his family in early 2016. The bureau warned him to be on “high-alert” following the threats. One USADA agent learned the hard way that you should never make surprise visits to a Green Beret while they’re on “high alert.”
Kennedy hasn’t fought in the UFC since 2014 but has toyed with the idea of returning to the ring on several occasions. Because of this the USADA has been testing Kennedy regularly. He has been tested at least five times since the time of the incident in 2016 and had developed a relationship with his normal testers. Unfortunately, one USADA newbie started his new career shortly after Kennedy received news of the ISIS threats.
Kennedy shared the story one night at an Onnit Fight Night event. Kennedy stated that he arrived home to see a strange truck in his driveway. His kids and dogs were home so he immediately drew his gun and order the unidentified man out of the car. The USADA agent immediately put his hands out the window and shouted:
“‘I’m from USADA! Please don’t kill me! I’m just here to get your pee!”
Thanks to the good humor and quick thinking of the USADA agent the situation diffused itself immediately. The two shared a laugh before Kennedy surrendered his urine peacefully and sent the new agent on his way with the story of a lifetime.
