Watch three U.S. soldiers fight off a Taliban ambush. The American soldiers were walking through Logar Province, what they thought was a “safe zone.” The video beings approximately three seconds after they were ambushed from the front by three Taliban soldiers.
American soldiers regularly patrolled the area and had gained the trust and admiration of the local people. They were regularly thanked for pushing the Taliban out of the area and didn’t expect the attack.
Listen to the soldiers strategize and return fire, and ultimately neutralize the enemy attackers. This is real combat footage and may contain language and graphics that may be disturbing to sensitive viewers but has been edited to remove close-up graphic footage of the Taliban soldiers after they were killed in the firefight.
The soldier wearing the helmet cam issued his own account of the tale after submitting the footage explaining why he is submitting the footage:
This patrol was a relief in place and I was on point leading the new guys in for the RIP. We hadn’t taken much contact in this area, and it was generally considered a “safe” zone in Logar Province.
We patrolled the area frequently, and the locals would regularly thank us for pushing the Taliban away from their village so they could live their daily lives without constant threat.
The Taliban that we came across during this patrol were actually setting up to shoot down our new surveillance balloon that was launched in the area. The balloon caught the entire fight on camera from above, which confirmed that we killed 3 Taliban fighters during this engagement.
I saw the first guy shoulder his RPG, take a knee, and point it directly at me from about 15 meters away. I’m not sure if it was luck, but I shot first and hit him twice. The rest of the team engaged immediately after this.
At the end of the day, there were no friendly casualties, and we had eliminated 3 Taliban murderers who do not believe woman should be able to drive a car, believe woman are second class citizens, hate Christians, have a warped and disturbing view of the world, and do not believe in fun really of any decent kind.
I wanted to share the video with the world because I was sick of hearing all the ignorant things said about what we are doing over there. People need to understand what it’s like on the ground for the troops on the front line, and see what we have to deal with on a daily basis without some political spin on the story.
The U.S. currently has 11,000 troops in Afghanistan, including covert and temporary units, defense officials from the Pentagon said. Years ago, Defense Department officials had said 8,400 troops were in Afghanistan as part of NATO’s Resolute Support mission. An additional 2,000 American troops are in Afghanistan to help local forces conduct counterterrorism missions, but it had not been previously acknowledged by military officials.
